Founded in 1922, by James Alexander Veasey, a lawyer formerly employed by the Dawes Commission,〔Tulsa Preservation Commission. "Veasey House." Retrieved January 7, 2012.〕 the school is named to honor the first Headmistress, Winnifred Shureman, who was of Dutch descent.
